Mission statement

We are a Medical Practice based in the heart of the community. Our objective is to provide comprehensive and continuing care to all our patients seeking medical care irrespective of age, gender and ethnic background. We undertake to provide all core elements of care according to best practice based on current evidence wherever applicable.

The care provided will depend on knowledge and trust engendered by repeated contact with the individual. This may be done directly or through the services available in the community.

The multi disciplinary team in this Medical Centre will always endeavour to be of assistance to you and endorses the objective set out in this statement.

Brief History of the Practice

The Practice was set up in 1950s by Dr Brendan Greene as a single handed practice. He was joined by Dr. Michael Costello in the early seventies. Both were joined in 1985 by Dr. Philip Wiehe. In 1988 Dr. Imelda Sliney joined providing sessional services.

The premises was extended to accommodate the additional services of what is now a well established multidisciplinary team. In 2008 further structural work was carried out to accommodate the Physiotherapy and Podiatry clinics more suitably.

In 2003, Dr. Liz Broe joined the Practice as a part time associate, to facilitate the additional offsite duties in education and special needs care provided by the Medical Staff members. Dr. Cliona O’Rorke joined in 2004 and, following the retirement of Dr. Costello in 2008, is now an established partner. Dr George Dennis joined as a full time associate in 2007.

The Practice is a Postgraduate training Practice and we welcomed our first registrar in July 2009. The Practice remains also an undergraduate teaching Practice.
